Frivolity & Fireworks in the Garden

May 4, 2018

Mr. Jefferson's Palace Garden Party

Join us on May 4 for an immersive 18th-century garden party at the Governor’s Palace. Hosted by President Thomas Jefferson, guests will enjoy traditional music, dancing, theatrics, games, libations, fireworks, and a special concert from Broadway legend Betty Buckley! All guests are encouraged to wear 18th-century attire (costumes available for purchase and rent). Must be at least 21 years old to attend.

Join us for the annual Drummers Call, a weekend-long showcase of 18th century military music. Explore the important roles played by fifers and drummers in programs featuring Colonial Williamsburg's Fifes and Drums, alumni, and corps visiting from across the nation.

There's no better place to celebrate our nation's birth than on historic Duke of Gloucester Street. Enjoy a full day of patriotic festivities, including public readings of the Declaration of Independence, musical performances, hands-on activities for the kids, and a dazzling fireworks display to cap the evening.

Grand Illumination

In the 18th century, illuminations--the firing of guns and lighting of fireworks--celebrated major events such as the birthday of a reigning sovereign, military victories, or the arrival of a new colonial governor. Join Colonial Williamsburg for this special day by strolling the Historic Area and viewing all the unique decorations.
